Christmas Program

Christmas for most of us conjures up memories of warm homes, holiday aromas and special gifts under the tree. But

what if you are a child in a homeless shelter or living with your family in a car? What memories would Christmas hold

for you then?

Toy Rescue Mission loves to make sure we can make Christmas special for children in need. Other agencies canprovide a safe home and nourishing food, but we try to bring back the ‘light’ in a child’s eyes as they see a wished-forgift on Christmas morning. It’s something they can call their own in a world of chaos and uncertainty. We also serve the‘forgotten children’ at the other end of the age spectrum--seniors with dementia in care facilities.

Our annual Christmas gift distribution gives joy to so many underprivileged children in the Pierce County area andseniors in care facilities. The children receive like-new (and some new) toys, books and stuffed animals. The seniorsreceive lap blankets, toiletries, puzzles and stuffed toys. All items are clean, in working order and sometimes sealed inplastic. Christmas wrapping paper and bows and Christmas decorations are also available to the parents of thesechildren.

This distribution is our largest program of the year. It occurs from mid-November to mid-December but we prepare forit all year long so we can serve over 7000 recipients. You can help by donating funds, holding a toy drive at your placeof employment or donating the following items: new or gently-used toys, books, DVD’s, Christmas wrapping paper andbows, candy canes, board games, Christmas stockings or gifts for children 10-15 years old.

We also need several volunteers to clean, repair and sort the donated toys and help with the distribution event. Let thetrue spirit of Christmas touch your heart and call us at (253) 460-6711 to volunteer your time and resources to brightenthe lives of children and seniors in care facilities.
